What is a concrete pump?
A concrete pump is a time, cost-efficient, and energy-saving machine that is used to transfer wet liquid concrete to places where concrete mixer trucks cannot access. It is operated by a skilled technician that controls the operation, position, and the pump by directing the boom or hose. The technician is also in charge of driving the pump to the job site, setting up, cleaning, and making any necessary repairs.
What type of pump is best for concrete?
There are two types of concrete pumps:
A boom pump uses a remote-controlled robotic arm (boom) and is attached to either a truck or a trailer as it disperses large volumes of concrete with pinpoint accuracy. The concrete boom truck typically remains in one place for the entire pour.
This type of cement pump truck is best suited for large construction needs or more specifically large industrial projects such as high-rise buildings that need concrete pouring at higher altitudes and with limited area to pour.
A line pump (also known as ground pump) is used primarily for smaller constructions projects, such as pools, sidewalks, ground slabs, low-rise construction, and slabs for single-family homes. However, larger line pumps can reach hundreds of meters or several kilometers away from the concrete pump truck. When operating these line pumps, they can either be mounted on a truck or placed on a trailer.
What are the benefits to a concrete pump truck?
Concrete pump trucks or concrete pump trailers can disperse a large volume of concrete as quickly as a truck mixer can discharge the concrete. Having the mobility and ability to safely move from one job site to another helps the continuous flow of concrete, meaning no time is wasted. Once arriving on the job site, the setup time is also very fast and efficient, lowering the need for additional contractors while allowing concrete pumping within the hour, adding efficiency and lowering the labor costs.
