Here’s a destination that should be on every equipment junkie’s bucket list: the Caterpillar Visitors Center in Peoria, Illinois, USA! Benjamin Holt, inventor of tracks for equipment and founder of Caterpillar, opened an equipment manufacturing facility in Peoria in 1910, and the location still serves as Caterpillar’s international headquarters.
The 50,000 square-foot Caterpillar Visitors Center features Caterpillar equipment from throughout the company’s 89-year history, including a 1928 Model Twenty tractor (below) and a 1930s Caterpillar D8 tractor you can actually try.
You can see the latest Caterpillar equipment on display plus engines, models, machine simulators, memorabilia, interactive displays and more. The Caterpillar Visitors Center even has a theater built inside the bed of a Caterpillar 797 mining truck!
